Antique French Majolica PlateRegular price £25.00
A Sarreguemines French faïence majolica plate, circa 1920-1950, showing a stemmed grouping of purple plums on a ground of overlapping mustard yellow leaves. The shaped rim follows the leaf form.
Majolica is a kind of earthenware that has been fired to the biscuit stage. Then the decoration is painted on with metal-oxide glazes. After that, the piece is fired again. This last firing gives a glossy finish to the glaze.
The plate is stamped with both impressed and printed marks, Sarreguimines and Made in France. It is in very good condition having neither chips nor cracks.
