A Bourne Denby Tyrolean Ware bowl designed by Alice Teichner,
Hand Decorated with four swirling handles, marked to the underside Denby AT W.T.L. & S. 1937, 29cm wide.
Austrian Ceramics designer Alice Teichner arrived in England in 1936 and started designing for Denby. Her Tyrolean Ware included jugs, bowls and vases, all having heavily applied swirling, oversized decoration. Finished mostly in gold and brown glaze her designs were way ahead of their time. Not long after the outbreak of World War II she left for Canada.
A rare and interesting piece of Art Deco pottery from a great innovator in ceramics.
