Still Life with Fruit Basket and Blackberries
Regular price £0.00This is a limited edition fine art print, numbered 66/100 in pencil in the lower left, with a Japanese signature. The style and technique are strongly characteristic of Japanese printmaking from the 1970s–1990s.
The medium appears to be a mezzotint or aquatint, given the extraordinarily smooth, velvety gradation of the dark background tones — a hallmark of mezzotint technique. The colour is hand-applied or printed in layers with great delicacy.
A quietly elegant horizontal still life depicting:
• A woven basket lined with a vivid red cloth or tissue paper, containing three round fruits — most likely peaches or nashi pears — rendered in glowing yellow and purple-blush tones with remarkable luminosity
• A small sprig of blackberries with trailing vine and tiny leaves placed separately on the table surface to the left, creating lovely compositional tension
• A dark striped background — perhaps a slatted blind or screen — which gives depth and a very Japanese sensibility to the composition
• A cool grey-green table surface with darker banding at front and back
