Styling your Product (online & offline)
Styling to tell a story, reflect the brand aesthetics and encouraging more customer engagement is essential when marketing your wares. This workshop is intended for makers who are required to promote their product for selling online or alternatively for presenting at markets. Our focus will be on how to style your work to create beautiful imagery(with a phone or camera) and how the same learnings can be transferred easily to creating a beautiful and impactful market stall at events. By following a few simple guidelines you can style like a professional to create compelling images for pitching to the press, sharing on social and your website.
We will look at the following areas within styling.
Introduction to Product Styling
- The purpose of styling.
- Understanding how the brand's aesthetics, identity and target audience will impact your styling choices.
- The different styling options ie flat lays, lifestyle shots, white background shots & creative compositions.
Visual Storytelling
- How to create a setting that tells a story about the product's use or lifestyle.
- Emphasising key product features through colour, texture and shape.
-
Set the mood/tone through styling, lighting & props.
Composition & Design Principles
- How using balance & proportion can create more flow and less noise in an image.
-
Using Rule of Thirds / Grid Lines to create visually appealing layouts.
- Using a focal point to draw attention to the product using lines, colour or placement.
-
Creating Consistency within your styling/photography.
- Camera lens vs the naked eye.
- How negative space can be used to avoid overcrowding the frame.
- The power of using available light
During the workshop we will touch briefly on creating the final image using a phone, however the majority of the workshop will focus on the styling aspect and not the photography element. All learnings covered can be transferred between the online and offline world.
There will be plenty of opportunity for practical work to reinforce your learnings.
I have intentionally kept this workshop at an affordable price for small business owners especially in the current climate. I will keep the workshop at a maximum of 10 attendees on a day when the shop is closed so that we have use of the whole shop and workshop room, plus all my props and products....
