A square cushion, handwoven in jute and wool on a dusky plum ground. The pattern is a kilim-style medallion: a pale oatmeal centre holding four hooked motifs in sage, ochre and aubergine, edged in charcoal. The colours are soft and a little uneven, the way hand-dyed yarn tends to be, and the weave has a good, nubbly texture you notice when you put your hand on it.
It sits well on a linen sofa or a plain wooden bench, and brings some warmth to a room without shouting about it. Jute is hard-wearing and naturally coarse, so it's better suited to a chair you sit back in than a pillow you sleep on.
